Mary Street Bakery

Mary Street Bakery – 4/5

Even with all the hype, I try to steer away from new venues for at least a few weeks after opening. It lets me avoid any teething problems and in the case of Mary Street Bakery; lines and lines of hungry people waiting for a breakfast. We dropped in to the Beaufort Street café recently, and waited about ten minutes before being seated on a Sunday morning.

We ordered the avocado on multigrain with sriracha and the crispy thick cut pork belly with beans, fried egg and kimchi. We both enjoyed the kick of spice in our dishes for breakfast. The avocado was generous and alongside an extra slow cooked egg, a great brunch. The pork dish, however, filled me up until dinner time! The meat was succulent and moreish, the beans had a rich salty flavour and whilst not traditional, the kimchi with apple was a great touch. Our coffees were strong and tasty.

Fitted out with polished concrete floors and rendered white brick walls, it’s a great looking café but a really loud one! We found ourselves yelling to each other across the table to be heard. Next time, we’ll try to leave some room for their freshly baked bread and pastries!
