La Veen Coffee – 4/5
There has been a swathe of new coffee spots opening in the west side of the Perth CBD in the last few weeks. I have happily been giving them all a try (all in the name of research, of course). Unfortunately, none have impressed me enough to warrant a mention. Until I wandered down to the lower end of King Street, into La Veen Coffee.
La Veen is located just past Uncle Joe’s, on the corner of Wellington and King Streets. Filled with dark wood, black tiles, exposed brick and great lighting – it is a real oasis from loud CBD lunch spots. Looking for something light to eat, I grabbed a small plate of their in-house baked bread with butter. There are three types of bread to try but being indecisive, I asked for a mix, which they were happy to do. The bread was fresh and moreish. They popped in some brioche for me to try also, which was soft and with just enough sweetness.
The other menu options looked so fantastic, that I popped back for brunch on Saturday (yes, they are open then!) and tried the pressed pork belly with kaboyaki sauce and apple yuzu salad.
Coffee, their brewed ice tea and the service was fantastic.
