Public House

Public House – 3.5/5

As we rarely venture to the East end of St George’s Terrace, after seeing a PIAF show at Langley Park, we took advantage of the location to drop into Public House for a late dinner. Located across from the Duxton Hotel, and close to the fantastic Hula Bula Bar, Public House has a very sleek fitout and a bar area which would be perfect for Friday night drinks.

The South American inspired menu lends itself to sharing. We ordered two small dishes (the ceviche and the empanadas) and the 12 hour smoked lamb shoulder with crispy chickpeas and green onion. The empanadas were tasty, however, at $15 for three pieces, an expensive small dish. The ceviche and lamb both had a lovely kick of chilli, however, were a little underwhelming.

My love of corn meant that my favourite dish of the night was actually one of the sides! The corn purée, charred corn salsa and chilli salt was topped with a few pieces of crunchy popcorn and was smooth, spicy and delicious.
