Hatch & Co
Hatch & Co – 4/5 Gasworks is just one of Brisbane’s new buzzing, dining and shopping precincts. Developed in the shadows of the purple-hued structure in Newstead, it has added a number of great restaurants to my list to try. On a mid-week evening, we ate at Hatch & Co – a bright and airy venue with an open kitchen and a large outdoor terrace. We decided to order mains only and tried the steak, the Spring Bay mussels with […]

Bib & Tucker
Bib & Tucker – 4/5 We have a habit of getting to Bib and Tucker at around 11.30 on the weekends. A little hint to all those who enjoy a good sleep in – their kitchen closes in between breakfast and lunch, please learn from our hungry mistakes. On a rare energetic Sunday morning, we made it to breakfast service after a visit to beautiful Leighton Beach. After a ten minute wait, we were seated on the comfy couches on […]

Stokehouse
Stokehouse – 4/5 There are few better places for an afternoon drink in Brisbane than the Stokehouse. Located in the River Quay precinct of Southbank, the bar area is very Queensland – wooden decking, afternoon breezes and a perfect view of the River and cityscape. On a warm afternoon we had glasses of crisp white wine alongside a few items off the bar menu – chips with chilli salt and aioli, breaded Spanish olives and a delicious charcuterie plate. The […]
Pleased to Meet You
Pleased to Meet You – 4.5/5 We’re big fans of La Cholita, so on reading that owner Clint Nolan had opened another Northbridge venue, we had to visit. Found on Roe Street, in between William Street and Chinatown, Pleased to Meet You is fantastic music, great service, low-lighting, exposed brick walls and long shared dining bench tables. The beer menu is lengthy, there is cider available off the tap in huge growler sized bottles and the food is amazing. The […]

Varnish on King
Varnish on King – 3.5/5 Located in the basement level on the Wellington Street end of King Street, Varnish is dimly lit and decked out in wood panelling. It is an American whiskey bar (no Japanese whiskey on the menu unfortunately), which also serves up quality eats. We dropped in for lunch and picked to order separately, which, granted the waitstaff were right in advising against. The dishes are definitely share-plate style and next time I would prefer to order […]
Print Hall Dining Room
Print Hall Dining Room – 3.5/5 When you sign up for a meal that will cost $110 per person (food only), expectations are high. You expect a special atmosphere, exceptional service and of course, exquisite food. The Dining Room is on the ground floor of the beautiful Print Hall complex. Unlike the other dining areas in Newspaper House, bookings are available and are a great way to skip the line on Friday nights. The restaurant reflects the look of the building […]
Baby Mammoth
Baby Mammoth – 3/5 When you are one of three tables dining in a restaurant on a Saturday night, it will always feel a little strange. The service can feel a little obtrusive, the kitchen staff look a little bored and there is always the question lingering… Why aren’t other people dining here? Baby Mammoth is currently BYO, which thankfully one of our fellow diners had already known. We ordered share plate style from the eclectic menu, as we wanted […]

Alfred & Constance
Alfred & Constance – 4/5 I’m a big fan of Fortitude Valley venue, Alfred & Constance. I love the themed bars, the music which is friendly to my ‘child of the 80s’ ears and relaxed vibe. It also boasts some great eats, which are available at all hours. The Vanguard Beer Garden sits in the middle of the venue and serves up a great selection of food designed for sharing. On a late night visit, we grabbed platters of delicious […]

Bread in Common
Bread in Common – 4.5/5 It’s been a while since I’ve been really excited about a restaurant. Bread in Common ticks all the right boxes – an amazing fitout (even the toilets are great!), fabulous food and great tunes. They played Bright Eyes, Vampire Weekend and The Shins during our brunch. Love. Located in Packenham Street, away from the Cappuccino Strip, the restaurants looks and feels great. We had two great long macchiatos and the scrambled eggs topped with delicious […]
